The organiser shall check the wine shipments received and the accompanying official documents, rectifying any clerical errors and rejecting samples that do not comply with the provisions of these rules. It shall pay particular attention to the correct use of designations of origin or geographical indications and to the batch numbers of packaged wines. The labelling of products produced in EU Member States must comply with Community rules and, in the case of third countries, with the rules in force in the country of production. The organiser then allocates the samples on the basis of the characteristics listed in the declarations provided in the registration data, or on the basis of the characteristics observed if necessary.
The organiser must store the samples in a safe place and under temperature and environmental conditions that guarantee their good condition.
